The design is inspired by Islamic architecture
The tower’s design is inspired by a traditional minaret. A minaret is used by Muslims for their call to prayer, hence is a symbol of Islamic culture. This is further enhanced by a lily flower inspired design.
The tower will be anchored to the ground through steel cables that resemble the ribbing of lily leaves. At the top, there is an elongated over a shaped structure, which evokes the bud of a lily flower. The tower comprises a slender stem that acts as the spine of the tower.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum chose the tower’s design
The tower’s developers, Emaar Properties, held an international design competition for the top architects around the world to pitch their designs. Once the entries were in, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the ruler of Dubai, picked the winning design.
The Tower design is by genius architect Santiago Calatrava
The genius mind behind the tower’s magnificent design is Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava. He is also a structural engineer and is well known for his work such as The Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro and the Milwaukee Art Museum.
The Tower will have dynamic illumination
The Dubai creek tower will have dynamic illumination and moving lights as its unique feature. There will be a beacon of light at the top, which will give the illusion of a flower bud hovering above the structure.
The Tower will be the tallest structure in Dubai
The height of the Dubai Creek Tower is estimated to be 928 meters with 210 floors. It will therefore be 100 meters taller than Burj Khalifa, which is 828 meters tall with 163 floors.
Location
The tower is located within the vicinity of Dubai Creek’s waterfront, near Ras Al Khor National Wildlife Sanctuary. It will serve as the centerpiece of Dubai Creek’s new district that is also under development. The 6 square kilometer area will be Dubai’s new commercial district hub with residential, retail, and entertainment spots.
The tower will have a pinnacle room at the top
The oval-shaped structure at the top of Dubai Creek Tower will host ten observation decks and the pinnacle room. The pinnacle room will have 360-degree panoramic views of the entire city.
The tower will have garden observation decks
Besides the pinnacle room, the tower will also have VIP garden observation decks. These will be designed to recreate the majestic ambiance of the ancient Hanging Gardens of Babylon. There will also revolve balconies that visitors can use to go outside for unobstructed views.
Uses
Dubai Creek Tower will be mostly observation decks or sky gardens. About 20 floors will be occupied by hotels, restaurants, and residences. The antenna at the top will be used for broadcasting.
Completion Status
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the progress of construction has slowed down. Its completion is now projected for 2021.
